P7G - Collaborative Art with St Brigid's

9th Feb 2018

As part of our Hunger topic in World Around Us, we are reading Under the Hawthorn Tree by Marita Conlon-McKenna.  We wanted to create a piece of collaborative art between the two schools, so decided to focus on the idea of hedgerows, as the characters in the story spend much of their time hiding and foraging in hedgerows.

Independently, each class created multiple backgrounds, which we then brought together on Monday.  After splitting into our two groups, each child began to work on one background.  Once our branches were drawn, we swapped backgrounds, and continued to do so until we were happy that we had finished.   We used a variety of media, such as chalk, oil pastels, charcoal and graphite.

To create the final display, we organised our separate pieces into a rainbow hedgerow.  We spent time discussing our favourite parts of the display.  I think you'll agree it is a striking piece.
