Cheers! P5AR enjoy problem solving and making mocktails!
On Wednesday we finished a series of maths lessons on capacity by tackling problem solving.
First, Mrs Allen demonstrated how to make 2 litres of "Florida Sunrise" mocktail in front of her class. Then the pupils, working in groups, were set the task of making different quantities of Florida Sunrise. For this they had to compare the volume they had to make with the original recipe, and find a rule to apply in order to calculate the new quantities. Finally, they measured the required volumes of orange juice, pineapple juice, water and Ribena and mixed their mocktails.
We finished the maths lesson with a tasting session-judging by the smiles this went down really well!
Here is the recipe if you want to try it at home:(1 litre)
Water 200ml
Orange juice 400ml
Pineapple juice 300ml
Ribena or (grenadine syrup if you can find it) 100ml
PS: Make sure you add the Ribena/grenadine syrup last. Then sit back and watch the sunrise!
