What are we learning about in term one:
This term our theme is ‘Hey! Hey! Look at Me!’. We will learn about our bodies, how to be healthy and safe. We will discuss the importance of our feelings and the best ways to express ourselves. We will also take time to learn about our past, our families and our local community. Our theme allows us to look at similarities and differences between ourselves and others.
Our themes are always very interesting and we learn through visitors, trips, ICT and reading, just to mention a few.
Numeracy
This term in Numeracy we are focusing on the hundred square and being quick to spot patterns between numbers.
Number
- Odd and Even Numbers
- Tens and units - addition with exchange and subtraction
- Number facts up to 20
- Times 2 tables.
- Sequencing and ordering numbers
- Number words.
- Function machines
Shape, Space and measures
- 2D shapes
- 3D shapes.
- Symmetry
- Nets of 3D shapes.
Data Handling
- Birthday bar graphs.
- Measuring and comparing our heights and shoe sizes.
- Tally charts.
- Measuring in centimetres.
Literacy Focus:
- Setting out books correctly (Date, Title, Ruling lines)
- Continue work on neat printed handwriting using the lines in our purple books correctly.
- We will improve our use of Grammar- full stops, capital letters, alphabetical ordering, adjectives, nouns and verbs.
- Reading with a loud, clear voice and adding lots of expression.
- Phonics –silent letters and tricky words.
- Comprehension – how to find answers in a passage and how to write a full answer.
- Our focus on creative writing will continue this year.
We will learn how to:
- Plan our writing
- Edit and improve
- Structure our stories using a beginning, middle and end.
- Add interesting descriptions and imaginative language.
