P2-P4 Literacy Support Term 1
Primary 2 have been working hard at their sounds and are now learning to blend these together.
- Please try to reinforce these daily and check for good letter formation.
- Keep going over the alphabet or have a go at singing the alphabet at home.
- Have lots of fun matching capital letters and lowercase letters.
- Always encourage your child to form their letters correctly to encourage good habits.
- Remember- time spent reading with your child is time well spent.
- Why not enjoy a game of eye-spy on your way home from school.
Primary 3
Our topic for this term is 'Castles' . We will be using this topic to base some writing. We will be working hard at new comprehension skills and look forward to enjoying looking at different types of stories/poems/non-fiction/posters to find information.
We will be reinforcing good punctuation and using capital letters ,full stops and question marks to improve our writing.
Keep up the hard work with the spellings-these have been learned really well so keep it up!
Primary 4
Every month we will be having class tests, so here are a few things you can do to help your child.
- Revise spellings from the beginning of the year-(especially the ones you know they had difficulty with!)
- Do a spot check with their reading book and see if they can read 10 words at random from the story.
- Ask your child to look for eg. speech marks, exclamation marks, commas, question marks. Sort sentences into questions and statements.
- Find words which are nouns/verbs/adjectives. Keep going over high frequency reading word lists and use every opportunity when you're out and about to get reading.
- Please try to revise words from previous weeks to keep them 'fresh'.
