Miss Galloway's Primary 5 Literacy Support group
Today Primary 5 were revising irregular past tense verbs by playing a game called 'Go fish'. Each player received 5 verb cards. The rest of the cards were placed in a pile face down on the table. Player 1 asked player 2 for the past tense or present tense form of one of his/her cards (e.g. If player 1 had a card that read 'saw', he/she could ask for 'see' or if player 1 had a card that read 'go', he/she could ask for 'went'. Each player had to state the opposite form of the verb on the card they were holding. If player 2 had the card, he/she gave it to player 1 but if he/she didn't have the card they told player 1 to "Go fish". Player 1 then drew a card from the pile. Then it was player 2's turn to ask player 1 for a card with play continuing back and forth until a player matched all of his/her cards or whoever had the most pairs won. Primary 5 enjoyed this game a lot and it was a great way of practising irregular verb tenses.
