Owen Daley Cup success for Ballykeel boys
The first football competition of the year – The Owen Daley Cup – was played in perfect Autumn conditions at Ballymena Showgrounds on Friday 11th October. This was a very evenly-matched tournament, with 16 teams competing over two groups for the chance to reach the knock-out stage.
Having topped their group on goal difference, the Ballykeel boys met Buick Memorial, where they came out as 3-0 winners against a young and spirited opposition.
Portglenone waited in the final. Having drawn 0-0 in the group stage this was always going to be a close match, and it was. With no goals scored after Extra Time it took penalties to decide the outcome, and it was Ballykeel who came away as winners with a scoreline of 2 to 1. Mention goes to Jacob who produced two brilliant saves in the shoot-out.
A huge well done to every player to put on the Ballykeel shirt – each one gave 100%!
