Theme - In the Toy Box

Up until Christmas our class theme will be 'In the Toy Box'. During this time we will be looking at old fashioned toys, making toys for our technology project and testing them. We will have a toy shop in class which will help us with our work on money. Very importantly we will be writing a letter to Santa and thinking of all the lovely things we would like!

Maths

This half term we will be talking and learning about money. Help us recognise and know all the coins up to £1. We will be counting out pennies and buying toys in our toy shop. We are practising counting up to 20 and down from 20-0. We will be playing games adding on 1 and 2 and talking about more and less. Watch out for ideas in our Maths homework.

Literacy

The children will be choosing a library book every week and bringing it home – please try to read it to them, as they love to hear stories in class. Keep up the good work with the reading books and Jolly Phonics sounds – it all makes a difference.

We are really trying to reinforce good handwriting and correct letter formation - help your child practise their letters as much as possible, especially if they reverse any letters.

We are trying to encourage the children to write simple sentences themselves, using as many little 'common' words as possible. Help them to write out any words they know or can sound out e.g. the , up, see, good, look, on, off etc.

We have been focusing on learning the alphabet name for letters and will be doing a lot of work on the alphabet until Christmas - say it at home and match upper and lowercase letters.
