P4 Learning in Term 3

Our new theme is ‘Let's Set Sail.' This is a fun and interesting theme for term 3.

P4 will be setting sail around the world discovering where we are on the map and exploring lots of other countries along the way.  We will be working closely this term with St.Brigid's to explore our own coastline and how to stay safe at the beach in the summer time. We will also have some fun learning about pirates through drama and music.

Literacy Focus:

• Continue work on consolidating cursive writing for moving into P5.

-Explore a range of writing forms including – poetry and explanation.

• We will improve our use of Grammar- full stops, capital letters, alphabetical ordering, adjectives, adverbs, nouns and verbs.
• We will become familiar with reading and writing in the past and future tenses.
• Discover how to use a dictionary and use it to complete simple tasks.
• We will learn the definition of adverbs and learn to incorporate them into our written work.
• Tricky words (there, they’re, their, two, to, too, we, we’re,)
• Read with more confidence and expression.
• In Comprehension activities we will focus on specific skills to improve our ability to answer with the correct information and in full sentences.
• Spell correctly and accurately.

Numeracy Focus:

Number:

• Revise and learn x3 and x4 tables.
• Continue to learn number facts up to 100.
• Subtraction with exchanging using hundreds, tens and units.
• Word problems.
• Money - finding change and adding coins.

Measures:

• Be able to read litres, kilograms and centimetres in a range of practical activities.
• Become confident with word problems.

Data Handling:

• Data handling though Carroll Diagrams and Pictograms and answering more complex questions.

Shape and Space:

• Use simple maps to give direction using compass points.
• Programme Beebots to follow given directions and create their own.
