More volcano fun in P5AR!
24th Apr 2018
Today we used a grapefruit to understand where most volcanoes appear on planet Earth. Kayleigh is holding a grapefruit (the Earth). The grapefruit has been peeled and each bit represents one of the tectonic plates of the earth. Most volcanoes appear at the edges of the tectonic plates.
However there are “hot spots” on the Earth. A hot spot is a hole in the Earth’s crust, which appears inside a tectonic plate.
Brodee is piercing a hole in the middle of the Pacific plate. Hawaii is a hot spot in the Pacific plate, and there is a lot of volcanic activity all year round!
Join us next week- we will be making volcano models!
