P5BE ‘Hop to it’ maths investigation

This week in maths we have been carrying out an investigation. Firstly we looked at a video of the world record long jump. We thought about the different factors that might have effected the distance jumped. In groups we then picked a factor to investigate and came up with a prediction. Some people predicted boys would jump further than girls; taller people would jump further than shorter people; and that leaning forward when you run would make you jump further. Then we tested our predictions and recorded the results. Finally, we discussed how accurate our predictions turned out to be and we Jen made a generalisation based on what our results showed us. It was a great way to bring together lots of different maths skills.
