P7G - Disability Sports Event
We had so much fun today at the Leisure Centre. Pupils from St Patrick's High School in Ballymena, who had been training to coach, taught us how to play some disability sports.
Here's a list of what we played:
Goalball - a game for blind athletes, a ball with bells inside is rolled across the floor and participants attempt to get goals
Boccia - a bit like French Boules, balls are thrown towards a white ball, the team with the closest ball wins
Wheelchair Rugby - all players are in wheelchairs, a round ball is thrown and passed as each athlete also maneuvers his/her wheelchair
Wheelchair Games - a variety of team games where each person is using a wheelchair
We enjoyed using different skills to play the sports, we had to listen really hard during Goalball! The wheelchairs were initially tricky to get the hang off, but after a few goes, we could move around the courts quite well.
