Problem Solving in P3K - Treasure Island
Today the children in P3K spent the morning problem solving using addition and in particular our knowledge of number bonds and doubles. The children were shown an example map of 'Skull Island' and we discussed the features of the island such as the volcano, waterfall, bridge, swamp and palm trees. The children noted the time it took to travel (in hours) from one place to the next. I gave the children a variety of routes to follow on the map and they had to calculate the total time taken to get to their final destination. The children showed super skills in addition as they worked out the answers and also proved how well they could read a basic map! The children worked in pairs to answer similar questions about a different Island called 'Treasure Island'. Our final challenge was to unlock treasure chests using number bonds. These bonds would make up combinations to unlock four padlocks. The children were really put to the test today but they thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and stepped up to the mark! Well done P3K!
