On Thursday 16th November, the senior football team took part in the annual 7-a-side qualifiers at Ballymena Showgrounds alongside Broughshane, Camphill, Carniny and St Colmcille’s. The top two teams would proceed to the Finals due to be held in Term 2.
The opening match was an even contest against Camphill. Chances were few and far between, with goalkeepers ensuring the tie finished in a 0-0 stalemate. Carniny were the next opponents. They had the lions’ share of possession and chances and ran out as eventual 1-0 winners. Ballykeel found their shooting boots in match 3 against St Colmcille’s and won 3-0, with goals from of Zack Fleming and Steph Mark (2). Match 4 continued on a similar theme with Ballykeel beating Broughshane 3-0, goals coming from Zack Fleming, Calvin Termonia and Bobby Crawford.
Despite finishing strongly, Ballykeel finished third in the group on 7 points behind Carniny (9) and Camphill. While Camphill also had 7 points, they had a superior goal difference. (Ballykeel +5 goals; Camphill +6 goals.)
Well done to each player, particularly Zak McKendry and James Dickson who made their senior team debuts.
