Welcome to Primary 4!

This is a very busy term for all pupils in Primary Four. We have new routines, more books and more homework than last year but also lots of exciting new opportunities.

Here are some things that we are focusing on;

• Writing our homework diaries

This year it is important to make sure our homework diaries are kept up to date. This helps us remember what we have to do each night at home.

• Spelling homeworks

Monday to Wednesday we have to write out our spellings neatly and learn them. Our writing has to be PERFECT! Make sure your letters are the correct size and have a flick.

• Daily test books

Every day in school you will have a test on the previous night’s spellings and tables. Friday tests are very important – get full marks four weeks in a row and you visit Mrs Sheeran to receive a certificate and sticker. Make sure your parents sign the Friday test every week.

What are we learning about?

This term our theme is ‘Hey! Hey! Look at Me!’. We will learn about our bodies, how to be healthy and stay safe. We will discuss the importance of our feelings and the best ways to express ourselves. We will also take time to learn about our past, our families and our local community. Our theme allows us to look at similarities and differences between ourselves and others.

Our themes are always very interesting and we learn through visitors, trips, ICT and reading, just to mention a few.

Literacy Focus:

• Setting out books correctly (Date, Title, Ruling lines)
• Handwriting
• Punctuation
• Reading with a loud, clear voice
• Phonics –silent letters and tricky words
• Comprehension – how to find answers in a passage and how to write a full answer.

Numeracy Focus:

• Odd and Even Numbers
• Tens and units
• Number facts up to 20
• Sequencing numbers
• Addition and subtraction
• Number words

       We're looking forward to getting to work and learning lots this term.
