Miss Galloway's P1KM Mad 4 Maths group

30th Apr 2018

Primary 1 have been continuing to learn about 2D shape in Mad 4 Maths club.  Today the children sorted pictures of everyday items by their shape.  They worked with a partner to do this and sorted the items really well.  Then each person took it in turn to close their eyes while their partner choose one or sometimes more than one card and placed it in the wrong shape group.  The other child then had to become a shape detective and identify the shape that was incorrectly sorted and place it in its correct shape group.  Primary 1 loved this game.  We also played Kim's game with number cards.  This game was good because it is a memory game which helped reinforce our numbers as well.  On Tuesday Primary 1 played bean bag toss.  Number cards or picture representations of numbers were placed inside hoops and children had to throw a beanbag into the correct hoop.  The boys and girls also played a 'Find a path' game which concentrated on the properties of 2D shapes.  The children took it in turn to roll a dice.  The number 1, 3 or 4 was rolled and the children had to move their counter from a shape to another shape with the number of sides that was rolled on the dice.  Primary 1 enjoyed this game so much they want to play it again another week.  The session finished with Primary 1 using 2D shapes to build shape pictures.
