Numeracy support P5,6 and 7

31st Jan 2017

After Christmas it was time to learn about time with P5 and P7.

P5 have been learning to tell the time in 5 minute intervals using analogue and digital clocks. As most devices they use have a digital display it is something they pick up quite quickly however reading a clock face and telling the time in words using 'past' or 'to' is more difficult for the children to grasp.  Please support them at home by having both types of clock and asking them the time in two ways.

P7 have been focusing on 24 hour time in 1 minute intervals and duration of time strategies. we looked at three methods of calculating elapsed time and recorded it in their learning diaries which they will take home at the end of the year. these form a good resource for them when they go to post primary education.

P6 are currently looking at types of angles, measuring angles and following directions using right angled turns on an eight point compass.
