P7 have been working with large numbers up to hundreds of thousands and how they apply in real life situations. We discovered that the canteen make approximately 1,750 meals per week which when you work out per year is in tens of thousands. If you calculate cost of food, heating and electricity, then add in wages etc the number moves into hundreds of thousands.
P7 looked at the value of each digit in a number. They could write it in words, standard form and expanded form. We then used partitioning cards to help us understand how to add on 10, 100 or 1,000.
